D
Distilled Water –
Water that has been purified through means of
distillation. The water is vaporized, causing it to
turn to steam, which separates it from any minerals
and/or other contaminants. The steam then cools and
condenses into a more pure form of water than the
original. While not a good choice for drinking, it is
the best option for cosmetics and toiletries. We only
use distilled water in our natural handmade soap.
Decoction
- A tea or infusion that is produced from the boiling of
hard plant matter such as bark, nuts, seeds and roots.
To achieve the desired benefits of the herbal decoction,
the plant matter is usually simmered at a low boil, in a
covered pot, for about 20 minutes and then strained
before it is consumed.
E
Emollient
- An agent that is softening or soothing to the skin.
Emu Oil
- Refined from the fat of the Emu bird, this oil is
believed to have healing properties, especially for burn
victims and those with extremely dry and irritated
skin. As we at Rainforest Organics Natural Soap Co.
believe strongly in Animal rights, and maintain
cruelty-free practices, we do NOT use Emu oil in any of
our products! A vegan substitute for Emu oil is
Meadowfoam oil.
EO – Abbreviation for essential oil.
Exfoliant
- An abrasive additive or material that is used to
remove dead skin cells, thus promoting skin
regeneration.
Loofahs and sisal sponges are excellent exfoliators,
as is powdered pumice which is contained in our
Powder Puff Pumice soap bar.
F
FO
– Abbreviation for fragrance oil.
Fragrance Free
- Contains no added fragrance products. If skin
sensitivities or concerns exist, one should always refer
to the ingredients list for further confirmation as
there is no regulated definition for this term.
