A
Absolute -
A
highly concentrated and potent aromatic oil that is
extracted from plant material using chemical solvents
and alcohol. Be aware that trace amounts of solvents
may remain in the finished Absolute product.
Acid
-
Anything with a pH lower than 7 is acid - above 7 is
alkaline. The PH of pure water is 7. Human skin has an
average pH of 5.5-6.5. Our natural soaps range in ph
from 7-8, depending on the purpose of that particular
bar.
Additive -
Refers to an ingredient added to soap, usually at trace,
which has no effect on the saponification process but
has purposeful reasons for being included. Oils such as
Jojoba, Hemp, and Shea Butter are commonly used in soap
making as superfatting agents to lend additional
moisturizing qualities, and pumice powder is a common
exfoliating additive. Our Licorice Luxe bar includes an
actual Star Anise seed on top, just because it looks
pretty.

Antibacterial –
An ingredient or substance that destroys or inhibits the

B
Botanical Name -
Refers
to the Latin name of a plant as assigned by the
biological classification system. The botanical name
consists of two parts, the genus and then the species.
i.e. Lavandula angustifolia is the botanical name for
Lavender essential oil.
